Your Estimate
Not sure? Most Hoover ranch homes are 1,200–1,600 sq ft of crawl space. Larger two-story homes run 1,800–2,400.
How This Calculator Works
We built this from real Hoover-area job data — not national averages that don't account for Alabama clay soil and humidity. Here's what's behind the numbers:
Per-square-foot base: $3–$5 for clean/dry, $5–$8 for damp, $8–$15+ for wet/moldy conditions. Labor is 50–70% of every job — crawl space work is slow, physical, and skilled.
What moves the number most
- Condition matters more than size. A 1,000 sq ft wet crawl space costs more than a 2,000 sq ft dry one. Mold remediation and drainage are the big swings.
- Access. Tight clearances (under 18 inches) slow everything down. Homes with exterior access hatches cost less to work in.
- Drainage. If you need a French drain and sump pump, that's $3,000–$5,000 before encapsulation starts. But skipping it when you need it means doing the job twice.
- Dehumidifier. Non-negotiable in our climate — budget $1,800–$3,500 installed for a properly sized commercial unit.
Why Quotes Swing $3,000–$15,000 for the "Same Job"
Because it's rarely the same job. A $3,500 quote is barrier-only on a clean crawl space. A $14,000 quote is full encapsulation with drainage, mold remediation, and a dehumidifier on a wet 2,000 sq ft space. When comparing quotes, ask each contractor to itemize — if they won't, that's your answer.

Calculator FAQs
How accurate is this calculator?
It's a ballpark — typically within 20–30% of a final quote. The biggest variable is condition, which is hard to self-assess without getting under the house.
We'd rather give you an honest range than a false precise number. The free inspection is where the real figure comes from.
Why is there such a big range?
Because crawl spaces vary enormously. Size, moisture level, mold, drainage needs, and access all swing the price — a wet 2,500 sq ft space can cost 3× a dry 1,000 sq ft one.
Does this include the dehumidifier?
Only if you check the box. We list it separately because some homeowners already have one — but in Hoover's climate, encapsulation without dehumidification usually disappoints.
